Description
View of downtown of Matera, Italy, in black and white; Matera, Basilicata, a district of Southern Italy, has an incredible and millenary history, from the shame of Italy in the 50s - an incredible level of poverty, residents lived in the caves, with big families and livestock, without electricity, plumbing or running water - to European Capital of culture in 2019, through the staus of UNESCO heritage site in 1993 and set for dozens of Italian and foreign films; one among all Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ". This area has been peopled since the Paleolithic (10th millennium BC), making this place one of the oldest inhabited settlements in the world.
