Description
Fireworks over an old Castle, the Castle of Saint Adiutore; every year there is a celebration born from this episode: Among the many scourges of Italy, in 1656 there was that of the plague. Brought to Naples by a ship of Spanish soldiers from Sardinia; in the quarry city where the castle is located, the disease sowed thousands of victims: the corpses were buried in the countryside and not in churches, to prevent the disease from infecting the population. Continuous were the invocations made to the Saints to ward off the evil of the century. Tradition says that it was eradicated thanks to the pilgrimage made by the people to venerate the Blessed Sacrament of the chapel existing within the walls of the Castle of Saint Adiutore.
The only surviving priest displayed the Sacra Ostia on the four sides of the terrace of the fortress to bless the city. The famous Festa di Castello was born from this episode
